Maurice J. Tobin K-8 School

Principal's Vision

The Tobin is a very large school, so it is a challenge to coordinate all of the services and enrichment activities into a comprehensive strategy that improves both academic and developmental student outcomes. Our vision is to be a ‘full-service haven’ for students and families, providing wrap-around services that are critical to their health and well-being, and to their ability to learn.”

Overview

Located in the Mission Hill community, the Tobin is a racially diverse, K-8 school with a large Latino population.Students at the Tobin face numerous non-academic barriers to learning. In keeping with the Tobin’s vision for serving the whole child, the school aims to ensure that students’ basic needs are met so that they are prepared to participate effectively in the academic setting.PSS is supporting the Tobin in this aim and the larger goal of providing students with opportunities to develop basic academic skills.

The Tobin has rich resources and a wide array of partnerships. PSS is assisting the school with aligning its instructional activities, student support initiatives, and “wrap around” services (including before- and after-school programming) to improve student achievement.
