Emily A. Fifield Elementary School
Principal's Vision
“My vision for the Fifield Elementary School is to offer each child an opportunity to learn according to his or her unique learning styles. We believe that all children are capable of learning and that we must have a joint effort involving parents, teachers and the community to develop the whole child. Our focus is to make sure that all of our students are excellent readers and will develop the communication, computation and technical skills necessary for success in the 21st century."
Overview
The Fifield Elementary School is located in Dorchester. The school serves approximately 300 students, the majority of whom are African-American. Fifield students face numerous non-academic barriers to learning, including poverty, exposure to violence, and lack of transportation which prohibits them from participating in OST programs.
PSS will help the Fifield realize its goal of providing its students with comprehensive, high-quality OST programming. With the support of PSS, the school will:
- build upon its strong commitment to academic tutoring, adding enrichment activities and support services
- improve the coordination and management of its OST programs
- increase the integration between in-school and out-of-school time
- take better advantage of partnership opportunities
The school will begin an intensive PSS planning process for the 2007-08 school year in March 2007.
