Principal's Vision
“Young Achievers is dedicated to creating an exceptional teaching and learning environment in which science and math concepts, explored via new technologies, are central to teacher and student inquiry. From its inception, we have aimed to be a full-service school that addresses students’ individual learning needs. We are excited about the opportunity that PSS offers - to coordinate the resources needed to provide an optimum program for students and families.”
Overview
Young Achiever’s is a diverse, K-8 school located in Jamaica Plain. The school provides an eight-hour, seamless school day that includes an experiential curriculum. Young Achiever’s has a number of strong partnerships, including with the Community Learning Center on-site. The school aims to address its students’ critical needs through:
- Expanding and providing more targeted tutoring
- Increasing mental and physical health programs and services
- Increasing coordination of in-classroom and out-of-classroom curriculum
PSS will enable Young Achiever’s to further expand its extended day programming from the existing 4:50pm dismissal to 6pm, and take additional steps towards becoming a full-service school. With the support of PSS, the school will provide a more comprehensive infrastructure for student academic and social support, building on the school’s many partnerships and more fully integrating students’ in-school and out-of-school time learning experiences.
Young Achiever’s will begin an intensive PSS planning process for the 2007-08 school year in March 2007.
