Program Coordinator
Boston Area Health Education CenterThe mission of the Boston Public Health Commission is to protect, preserve and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, particularly those who are most vulnerable. BAHEC focuses on preparing underserved, immigrant and linguistic-minority high school students for urban health careers.
DUTIES:
- Within BAHEC, develops, implements and manages middle and/or high school Youth to Health Careers Program.
- Coordinates comprehensive summer and academic year program activities (i.e. clubs, tutoring, internships, mentoring, community service, college prep, and field trips)
- Coordinates the Youth Advisory Board.
- Liaison with BPS representatives to monitor individual student progress and track graduates of the program.
- Develops and implements parent programs and activities.
- Provides information and guidance to students and families entering the post-secondary preparation process.
- Coordinates an evaluation process to determine the effectiveness of educational programs, instructors, activities, materials and services.
- Hires and supervises program associates and seasonal instructors for academic-year and summer programs.
- Completes monthly and annual progress reports.
- Prepares and manages a budget for educational programs.
- Assist in identifying and developing sources for fundraising.
- Performs other duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Living within the actual city of Boston is required, or willingness to relocate to Boston within 6 months of hire. This is a City Ordinance and a minimum requirement of all positions at BPHC. If you are willing to move into Boston, please state so in your cover letter.
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Health Policy Administration, or a related discipline, such as sociology, organizational psychology, public health nursing, or health communications required; OR BA/BS and 2 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing; OR 5 years of equivalent experience in public health program coordination, management and/or community organizing may be substituted for undergraduate degree. Licenses, certifications or program specific experience may be required by grant or program needs.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and implementing complex projects related to education and/or health is strongly preferred.
- Ability to write clear, concise reports and to follow and to give written and oral instructions in a precise and understandable manner. Ability to supervise, including: planning and assigning work; evaluating and motivating colleagues and students -- determining the need for disciplinary action Excellent organizational skills with the ability of developing time lines and meeting deadlines Demonstrated leadership ability Computer literate with advanced knowledge and experience with MS Office. Demonstrated cultural competence with the diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic groups.
